Thursday People

I asked Anne, "Who are Thursday People?" She thought for some time, and here is what she told me.

Our Tribe is made up of Thursday People. Most, but not all, Thursday People are women. Professional women, career women, women who work outside the home, women who work at home and those for whom home is their vocation, women with empty-nests, semi and fully retired women. Thursday People are curious about other people; they enjoy and appreciate learning about other people's life experiences, good, bad and ugly.

Anne believes that experiences have exponential value when they are shared. Especially the bumps, potholes and cow patties of life.

Now I chuckle whenever Anne says, "cow patties" . I hope you all know that a cow patty is a lump of cow manure that has formed a dry crust. Like many of life's challenges, cow patties are not easy to see, you don't smell them until you have stepped in them, and once you step in them, they are slippery and they really stink!

Thursday People also want everyone to be the best they can be! To be courageous and rise to their own highest and best potential. We cheer each other on. We are not thrifty with praise or compliments. We know that life is an endless adventure and we are all learning.

Thursday People know who they are, know they have a purpose, and a contribution to make.

And, Thursday People subscribe to Maya Angelou's belief that we do the best we can, with the resources we have at the moment; when we know better, we will do better. And, we will forgive ourselves and everyone else for what we did before we knew better!

Maya Angelou is one of the most inspiring voices of our lifetime. If you are interested in learning about her life, we recommend her own best selling memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and Rise!, a biography in which Bethany Hegedus lyrically traces Maya's life from her early days in Stamps, Arkansas through her work as a freedom fighter to her triumphant rise as a poet of the people.
